In yet another shutout for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, the gals were unfazed by their Big 12 opener at home against the University of Utah Utes and rode into a windy-Lubbock night with a 2-0 victory.
First Half Vibes:
We looked balanced with the Utes. Very demure. Very level.
We rang out six shots and three corner kicks in the first half. We were knockin' like it was Halloween night and had great looks, but we went into halftime scoreless.
We at Seeing Scarlet (like all Red Raiders) practice the mantra "In Tom [head coach Tom Stone], we trust" as we saw series of game changers flow within the match, and we got to witness the growth of a DEEP roster. In Tom, We Trust...In Tom, We Trust...
Second Half Vibes:
SKYLAR HAASE Y'ALL! In her fourth goal of the year for the sophomore, and with less than 20 minutes in this match, Haase BURIES a professional-grade shot to the far side of the net.
Let's give it up for Chloe Soto with a volley off her own shot to score her first-career goal in the 72' minute! With Kaitlyn Giametta's patience to serve Soto the perfect ball, Chloe secured a huge W for the Texas Tech Red Raiders!
Faith Nguyen continues to be a huge piece of this team within such a short amount of time. Three saves recorded and another clean sheet for a new RRFL.
Cassie Taylor leads the defense through rough seas, but maintains a sense of calmness that allows for this entire team to shine.
Game Summary:
This was a huge win for us both to showcase our continue physical presence, and striking the iron while it's hot. Texas Tech showed a level of maturity and consistency that we haven't seen yet this season, refusing to let up and knowing eventually the dam would break. Tom Stone and the staff continue to unlock players on this roster, something that has become the norm in this program over the course of a season. Any attempt Utah built into a threat was extinguished by our entire team. Cassie "the Rock, Crunch, Does She Have a Pulse" Taylor was steady as ever anchoring on the back end alongside Molly Scurcenski and Faith Nguyen finished the job when called upon in goal. Our offense, defense, and goal keeping looked sharp and shout out to the coaching staff preparing this team for whatever comes their way. Who's next?
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will hit the road with three-away matches and their first stop is in Stillwater, Oklahoma against No. 14 Oklahoma State at 1p.m.
