The Texas Tech Lady Raiders have gained a commitment from 6-6 center Maya Peat out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff after her visit this week. Peat, set the all-time record for rebounds in a career at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, finishing with 688 career boards across four seasons with the Golden Lions. She has one season of eligibility remaining.
This past season Peat averaged 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in 21.5 minutes played. The Golden Lions didn't shy away from power five competition during their non-con schedule either, playing five different power conference teams including an upset over Arkansas in December. Peat also performed well in a loss to Ole Miss posting 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks in 21 minutes.
Peat brings needed depth at the five spot for the Lady Raiders and an ability to match up with some of the taller teams in conference. Being an ATHLETE is no surprise given her family pedigree either with both her father and brother playing in the NFL. Her brother Andrus Peat most recently was with the New Orleans Saints. Her sister Leilani also played college basketball at Seattle University and her younger brother Koa is currently rated as a top high school player in the Class of 2025. Imagine driveway family pickup games y'all. 🤯
